Why Your Peers, and Competitors, are Using Spread

We recently surveyed our registered users of both Spread for ASP.NET (Web Forms) and Spread Windows Forms and asked them several questions, including the following:

Why did you buy Spread? What were the deciding factors/features for purchasing:

Following are some of their responses (listed in random order). While we planned on using them for internal review only, they were so good we thought we would share them with you. Click the Read More link to view many more comments. Thanks to all who participated in the survey!

"We have worked with FarPoint Spread since its 16-bit version early in the 1990's. (We were using the VBX version with MS VB3.) Since then, we have evolved the product along with it and we always have been very happy with it."
"We bought FarPoint Spread for use in our evaluation of grid products for use in a project. The deciding factors were the wealth of features that FarPoint Spread offered over the compitition, for example the zooming feature."
"It was the most full-featured grid available that we could find. We used FarPoint Spread COM version 6 in place of the native object in Visual FoxPro and then continued with the .NET products as we migrated our applications to .NET. Specifically, the ability to have different objects in different rows of the same column was the initial reason for purchasing. Being able to vary the cell type and properties on a cell by cell basis programmatically is also at the top of the list. Basically, having the functionality of a grid but the ability to make it look otherwise is important to us."
"The deciding factors were easy to use, packed with features, unlimited runtime distribution, and the cost of the component was reasonable. This was back with Spread 2.0 in VB6; I have relied on it ever since."
"We used it for the last 10 years. It was one of the first spreadsheet components and still one of the best."
"I first came across FarPoint Spread about 6 years ago when I was looking for a versatile grid program and felt that FarPoint Spread was the answer. I have been with FarPoint Spread ever since."
"We had previously used the OCX version of FarPoint Spread (v3.1) and when moving to .NET it was an obvious candidate. The major advantages of this Spread were the multiple column and row headers, the multiple sheets and the ability to span/merge cells especially in the header cells."
"FarPoint Spread for Web Forms is an excellent product. We can easily integrate any financial application using FarPoint Spread and can do the financial calculations with out any much code. We used FarPoint Spread in a Visual Basic application a long time back. This helped us in evaluating this tool."
"I was developing a statics tool for education that needed some basic spreadsheet capabilities, while looking round I saw your product and suggested to my customers that we take the opportunity to use this staggering component to extend the product to contain full spreadsheet capabilities and extend the products shelf-life and opportunities. At the base level it was the great support for functions within the spread and the ability to extend that capability to include additional functions necessary for teaching stats. It was also really useful to be able to extend the cell types to allow for custom representation of information."
"My company at the time used FarPoint Spread ActiveX for VB from version 3.0 onwards. It proved to be most useful and stable control as compared with any other used from that time. In fact, that is the only custom control (not coming from microsoft) we are still using. As part of the upgrade process and migration towards full Web applications, using FarPoint Spread further on proves to be the cheapest solution and it gives the end-user a much better user experience compared with any other control."
